How to actually use a handyman well

Most people call about one thing. That is the expensive way to buy handyman work, because you pay for the drive, the setup and the minimum every time. The efficient way is to keep a running list and book a half day or a full day. A good technician with a stocked van will close eight to fifteen items in a full day. Same drive, same setup, one invoice.

The list we close most often

  • Interior doors that stick, rub or will not latch, and hinges that need shimming
  • Cabinet doors and drawers that sag or no longer align, and soft-close hardware
  • Leaking faucets, running toilets, angle stops, supply lines and shower trim
  • Garbage disposals, sink strainers and P-traps
  • Light fixtures, ceiling fans, dimmers, switches and outlets
  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, including hardwired replacements
  • TV mounting, shelving, mirrors, curtain rods, blinds and closet rods
  • Drywall patching, caulking, grout repair and touch-up paint
  • Weatherstripping, thresholds, door sweeps and window locks
  • Screen and window screen repair, sliding door rollers and tracks
  • Baby-proofing, grab bars, handrails and accessibility hardware
  • Furniture assembly and mounting to studs rather than drywall anchors
  • Dryer vent cleaning and rerouting
  • Gate hardware, hose bibs and exterior fixture replacement

What we do not do on an hourly visit

Work that legally requires a permit or a specialty license inside an hourly visit: panel changes, gas line alterations, structural work, main line sewer work and roofing. If your list contains one of those we tell you up front and quote it separately as project work under our general contractor license. That honesty is why we do not get called back to fix somebody elses shortcut.

Rates

We bill at $110 per hour with a two-hour minimum, with half-day and full-day blocks that come out lower per hour. Materials are billed at cost with receipts. You get the item list and the time on the invoice so you can see exactly what you paid for.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum?

Two hours. Beyond that we bill in half-hour increments.

Do you buy the materials?

Yes, at cost with receipts, or you can supply them. Tell us in advance so the right parts are on the van.

How many items fit in a day?

Usually eight to fifteen depending on complexity. Send us photos and we will tell you honestly whether your list is a half day or two days.

Can the same technician come back?

Yes, and most repeat clients request it. We keep notes on your property so nothing gets re-diagnosed.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry general liability and workers compensation and can send a certificate to you or your HOA.
