Remodeling Contractor & Handyman in Los Angeles

Repairs & Remodels

Fix Brothers is a licensed and insured general contractor based in Chatsworth, working across the City of Los Angeles since 2015. Kitchens, bathrooms, ADUs, room additions and whole-home renovations, run by the two brothers who own the company, with an in-house handyman crew for the repairs in between.

One company, one written price, one crew from demolition to paint. If you are in the city and not sure which of our neighborhood pages fits, start here and we will tell you what your block needs.

Homes & Local Conditions

Homes & Local Conditions

Los Angeles is not one housing market, it is twenty. A 1920s bungalow in the older central neighborhoods, a 1950s tract house in the Valley, a hillside home on caissons and a Westside condo all need a different plan, different trades and a different permit path. What stays the same is the process: we look at the job, write a fixed price for the whole project, pull the permits under our own license and keep one crew on site until it is finished.

City projects almost always run through the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Anything that moves plumbing, adds circuits, changes framing or adds square footage needs a permit and inspections, plus Title 24 energy paperwork. On top of that, parts of the city carry extra layers: hillside rules and haul routes in the canyons, coastal permits near the beach, historic overlay zones in older neighborhoods, and HOA or building management approval in condos. We check which of these apply to your address before design starts, because that is what decides the real timeline.

Practical conditions matter too. Older housing stock means galvanized plumbing, knob-and-tube wiring and uneven floors are common finds once walls open. Narrow streets and permit parking affect staging and dumpsters. We plan for all of it, and we tell you about what we find rather than quietly adding to the bill.

Frequently asked questions about remodeling in Los Angeles

Who issues permits in Los Angeles?

The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety for anything inside city limits. Remodels that move plumbing or add circuits, structural work, additions and ADUs go through plan check and inspections. Separate city departments get involved for hillside grading, haul routes, street use and historic districts. We pull every permit under our own license, schedule the inspections and meet the inspectors on site.

Which neighborhoods do you cover?

The whole city and most of the surrounding valleys and Westside: the San Fernando Valley, the hills and canyons, Central and East LA, and the coast from Pacific Palisades down to Venice and Marina del Rey. We have detailed pages for more than thirty neighborhoods, and the crew that comes to you is the same one on every job, not a subcontractor pool.

How do you price work in the city?

Almost everything is quoted as one fixed price for the whole project, written down and agreed before work starts. We walk the job, measure, and put scope, materials and schedule in the estimate so the number does not drift. Short handyman visits get a fixed price too, based on your photos or a quick look.

Can you handle a remodel while we keep living in the house?

Usually yes, and most of our clients do exactly that. We stage the work so the kitchen or the bathroom you rely on stays usable as long as possible, build dust barriers, protect floors, and keep tools and materials out of the living space at the end of the day. On whole-home projects it is sometimes cheaper and faster to move out for a few weeks, and we will say so honestly when that is the case.
