This project covered the design and installation of a decorative accent wall in a residential living area, taking the wall from plain painted drywall to a finished feature surface. Preparation is most of the job. We removed the existing trim, checked the wall for bow and level, and corrected the substrate before installing the new material. Where a wall is out of plumb, panelling installed straight to it will show a tapering gap at the ceiling, so shimming and scribing at this stage is what makes the finished result look built-in. Once the material was fixed, joints were filled, caulked at the perimeter, primed and painted. Trim was reinstalled and the room cleaned down. Accent walls suit living rooms, bedrooms and home offices, and are a practical option for renters and owners who want a visible change without construction work.
