Remodeling Contractor & Handyman in Agoura Hills

Repairs & Remodels

Fix Brothers is a licensed and insured general contractor serving Agoura Hills, at the western end of our service area. The work here is mostly kitchen and bathroom remodeling in 1970s and 1980s ranch homes, whole-home updates, decks and exterior repairs, and the occasional ADU on the larger semi-rural lots.

We also send our in-house handyman crew for smaller jobs: doors that stick after a hot summer, fence and gate repairs, fixture installs and the punch list that never quite got finished.

Homes & Local Conditions

Homes & Local Conditions

Agoura Hills is its own city, not part of Los Angeles, and that changes how a project runs. Permits and inspections go through the City of Agoura Hills, the review is usually more personal than a big city counter, and the city pays close attention to anything visible from the road or near a protected oak. Oak trees are protected by local ordinance, so foundations, driveways, patios and even equipment staging near a mature oak need to be planned around the tree instead of around the excavator.

The housing is mostly ranch and two story homes from the 1970s and 1980s, with newer pockets and the older equestrian properties in Old Agoura. Typical conditions: original kitchens and baths that have had one cosmetic update and now need the real one, aging decks and exterior wood, hard water on fixtures, and roofs and stucco weathered by sun and wind off the Santa Monica Mountains. Much of the city is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so exterior work follows ignition-resistant material rules, and that affects siding, decks, vents and eaves. We price that correctly up front rather than discovering it at inspection.

Frequently asked questions about remodeling in Agoura Hills

Who issues permits in Agoura Hills?

The City of Agoura Hills, through its own planning and building departments. LADBS has nothing to do with projects here. Plan check timelines are usually reasonable, but design review matters more than in the Valley: height, colors, materials and anything near a protected oak get looked at. We submit the drawings, pull the permits and meet the inspectors on site.

Do the oak tree rules really affect a remodel?

They can. The ordinance protects mature oaks, including the root zone, so an addition, a new driveway, a pool deck or even heavy equipment parked in the wrong place can require an oak permit or a redesign. The practical approach is to check tree locations during the estimate and shift the footprint a few feet when that avoids a permit fight. When work genuinely has to happen near an oak, we handle the paperwork.

What does the fire zone mean for my project?

For most of Agoura Hills it means exterior work follows ignition-resistant rules: the materials used for siding, eaves, decks, vents and sometimes windows are specified by code. Interior remodeling is unaffected. The rules add cost to decks and exterior rebuilds, so we spell that out in the written estimate instead of leaving it as a surprise change order.

Do you come out for small repairs this far west?

Yes, we cover Agoura Hills with the same crew that works the west Valley. Small jobs get a fixed price before we start, and we group them so one trip covers the whole list: doors, drywall, fixtures, fence and gate repairs, water damage patches. Larger work is quoted as a fixed price for the whole project.
