How Much Does a Handyman Cost in Los Angeles? (2026 Prices)

Last Update:
October 17, 2026

What a handyman costs in Los Angeles in 2026: fixed prices by job, the hourly option, materials at cost, and why a list of 8-15 items in one visit is cheapest.

The short answer

For a single small repair in Los Angeles, expect a fixed price between roughly $120 and $300 at Fix Brothers: furniture assembly and TV mounting from $120, door repair from $145, plumbing repairs from $165, electrical repairs from $185, and drywall repair from $285. If you would rather pay by the hour, the rate is $160 for the first 2 hours, then $80-120 per hour depending on the work. Materials are billed at cost, with the store receipt attached to your invoice.

Those are the headline numbers. The rest of this article explains what sits behind them: when a fixed price beats hourly, why a list of ten small jobs costs far less than ten separate visits, and what pushes a price up before anyone picks up a tool.

2026 handyman prices in Los Angeles: the list we quote from

Every price below is the starting point for a standard job with normal access. The office confirms the exact number from your photos or a short visit, and that number does not change once work starts.

  • Door repair and adjustment: from $145. Sticking, sagging, or rubbing doors, hinges, strike plates, closers.
  • Locks, deadbolts and security hardware: from $145. New deadbolts, latches, handle sets, gate hardware.
  • Furniture assembly and TV mounting: from $120. Flat-panel mounts on drywall, plaster, or masonry.
  • Plumbing repairs and fixtures: from $165. Faucets, toilet fill valves and flappers, angle stops, disposals, supply lines.
  • Electrical repairs and upgrades: from $185. Outlets, switches, dimmers, GFCI replacements, fixture swaps.
  • Recessed lighting and ceiling fans: from $145 per fixture.
  • Window repair and screen replacement: from $165.
  • Caulking, grout and sealing: from $250. Tubs, showers, counters, exterior penetrations.
  • Drywall repair and installation: from $285. Holes, cracks, water-stained patches, texture matching.
  • Floor repair and squeak elimination: from $285.
  • Blinds, shades and window treatments: from $45 per window.
  • Water heater replacement: from $1,650.

Bigger scopes, such as kitchen or bathroom remodels and whole-home renovations, are quoted separately as projects. The complete list is on our pricing page, and our Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley pages show which of these jobs come up most in each part of town.

Fixed price per job or hourly: how to choose

Fixed price is the default at Fix Brothers and the right choice for most single jobs. You send photos or we come look, the office names one number for the whole job, and you agree to it before work starts. If the hinge screws turn out to be stripped and the technician has to fill and re-drill, the price stays the same. The risk of a job running long is ours, not yours.

Hourly makes sense when the scope is genuinely open: a walk-through where you point at things as you go, a list that keeps growing, or diagnostic work where nobody knows the cause yet. The hourly option is $160 for the first 2 hours, then $80-120 per hour depending on the work. The range reflects the trade. A few hours of patching and painting sits at the low end; work that needs a second technician or specialty tools sits higher. Ask the office which end applies to your list before the visit so the invoice holds no surprises.

A practical rule: one defined job, go fixed. Eight or more loose items with fuzzy edges, ask for both numbers and take the lower one.

Materials: at cost, receipt attached

Parts and materials are billed at what the store charged, and the store receipt is attached to your invoice. There is no markup to look for. If you already bought the faucet, the fan, or the paint, we install what you have. If you want us to source it, say so when booking; the technician then plans one supply run instead of two, which matters on hourly jobs.

Why a list of 8-15 items is the cheapest way to hire a handyman

Most of the cost of a small repair is not the repair. It is the drive, the parking, the setup, the trip to the hardware store, and the cleanup. A $145 door adjustment carries all of that overhead for fifteen minutes of actual work. A full day carries it once for a dozen jobs.

That is why we encourage homeowners to collect items into a half-day or full-day visit. A typical ten-item list looks like this:

  1. Rehang a closet door that jumped its track.
  2. Replace two dripping bathroom faucet cartridges.
  3. Re-caulk the tub surround.
  4. Patch and paint four anchor holes from an old TV mount.
  5. Mount the new TV in the bedroom.
  6. Swap three yellowed outlets and covers for white ones.
  7. Tighten a loose stair handrail.
  8. Install two roller shades.
  9. Adjust the front door so the deadbolt throws without lifting the handle.
  10. Replace a bathroom exhaust fan that rattles.

Priced one at a time, each of those ten items would carry its own trip charge. Grouped into one visit, the office quotes the list as a single fixed price, or you take the hourly option and the rate drops after the first two hours. Either way you pay for overhead once. Send the whole list, including the items you think are too small to mention; the small ones fill the gaps while caulk cures and paint dries.

What moves a price up, and how to avoid it

  • Access. Hillside streets with no parking, or condo buildings that need an elevator reservation and a certificate of insurance before a vendor can enter. We send a certificate of insurance on request; mention it at booking so the paperwork is done before the visit.
  • Matching old finishes. Heavy texture on old plaster, discontinued tile, a paint color with no code. Matching takes time. A neat, visible patch is cheaper than an invisible one, so decide which you want.
  • Hidden damage. A soft spot under a window is often more than drywall. If the technician finds wet framing or termite damage, the job pauses, you get photos and a revised price, and nothing proceeds until you agree.
  • Work that is not handyman work. Electrical panel upgrades, gas lines, roofing, and structural changes are separate trades. We will say so, and you hire the right one.

How to get an exact number fast

Text photos of each item to (323) 593-3663 or book a 2-hour arrival window at /request-a-quote. The office is open seven days, 8am to 8pm, and usually calls back within about 15 minutes. Our technicians live across Los Angeles, so most jobs are within a 30-40 minute drive of one of them, whether you are in Sherman Oaks, Santa Monica, or anywhere between.
