Restoration of a timber table and chair set, returning worn furniture to a serviceable and presentable condition. The work covered stripping the failed finish, repairing joints and damage, sanding back to clean timber and refinishing. On chairs the joints are usually the real problem: a chair that rocks has loose mortise and tenon joints, and refinishing without re-gluing those simply produces a good-looking chair that still fails. Solid timber furniture is generally worth restoring. The construction quality of an older set is frequently better than the equivalent bought new, and restoration costs less than replacement while keeping a piece that has value to the household.
